Why Red Tent?

In ancient times across many cultures, menstruation was considered sacred. Cycles of women in the community often synced together. This time of bleeding was honored by retreating together to a tent or hut that offered rest and respite. Women would spend this time in spiritual connection with themselves, and each other. The tent was also where birth took place. The midwife and other women would join the mother in support until the baby was born. This tradition is beautifully portrayed in the story of The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, my inspiration for the name of my business. I don't suggest we strive for some sort of ancient ideal. Instead, I dare women to take back what is sacred and find their modern day support of the Red Tent.

Philosophy & Care Approach
I view doula support as a relationship of trust and ongoing connection. Your induvidual needs and interests guide our time together. Understanding that birth is a spiritual event, we work together to prepare both body and mind for birth.
