It's been estimated that upwards of 1 in 3 women have trauma from their birth. Even higher yet for minority groups. Then still, many women have histories of other traumatic experiences that impact pregnancy and birth.
This is why I find being trauma informed as a birth worker essential. Even if the details of the trauma is unknown, my support approaches with t this, I can move forward with compassion and respect, helping to ensure others do the same, and do my humble part in helping prevent further trauma.
IF there's a history of birth trauma, we can take some time to work through that and talk about how you that experiene may affect you and your decision making this time around. A consecutive birth after a traumatic one has the potential to be immensely healing.
Body-mind connection is important to integrate and process experiences or trauma. Sometimes I suggest starting our time together with a simple guided meditation or visualization. These practices also slow down our "thinking brain" and allows us to connect more deeply with ourselves. in addition to all that- It's very relaxing!
